Whitney Elizabeth Houston is a singer that was born in Newark New Jersey on the 9th of August 1963. Their parents include gospel superstars Cissy Houston(n e Emily Lee Drinkard), and John Russell Houston Jr. Whitney's cousin Dionne warwick is also a singer. As a child she was a singer in the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark. When she was fifteen, Houston was singing professionally with backing vocals alongside her mother on Chaka Khan's hit song in 1978 Im Every Woman. Then it went on to be bought by over 25 million people worldwide, earning her the first Grammy.
